Vecchio Samperi - 2023 - Marco de Bartoli
Marco De Bartoli's "Vecchio Samperi" is named after the Samperi district, inland from Marsala, known for its mineral-rich limestone soil. This wine celebrates "territoriality" through a "racking" system that mixes small amounts of fresh wine with wines aged in oak barrels, following the ancient in perpetuum method, similar to the Solera system. The vines, planted between 1970 and 1996, cover 3,500 vines per hectare. Harvesting takes place in late September, with a yield of 40 q/ha. Grapes are hand-selected, gently pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak and chestnut barrels. Average aging is at least 15 years.
