Burgundy is world famous for its white wines from Chardonnay grapes and red wines from Pinot Noir. Burgundy is located in the east-central part of France and is one of the northernmost places in the world where red wines are produced. Pinot Noir prode the best results in cool climates such as Burgundy, and it is for this reason that the level of quality achieved here remains unmatched to this day. On the other hand, the latitude also has disadvantages: climatic adversity can lead in unfavorable years to wines with taste-olfactory profiles that are not always optimal. Burgundy wines thus tend to be different depending on the vintage, which makes the variety and complexity of this region all the more intriguing.
Burgundy also grows Aligoté (a white grape variety from the Mâconnais used to make widely consumed wines and sometimes found in Crémant de Bourgogne) and Gamay, the famous red grape used to make Beaujolais wines.
