Burgundy is world-famous for its white wines from Chardonnay grapes and red wines from Pinot Noir, indigenous grape varieties of this region, wines that have always been considered as role models for other regions producing wines from the same grapes. Burgundy is located in the central-eastern part of France and is one of the northernmost places in the world where red wines are produced. Both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produce the best results in cool climates such as Burgundy and it is for this reason that the level of quality achieved here remains unmatched to this day. On the other hand, the latitude also has disadvantages: climatic adversity can lead in unfavourable vintages to wines with taste-olfactory profiles that are not always optimal. Burgundy wines therefore tend to be different depending on the vintage, which makes the variety and complexity of this region all the more intriguing.

In addition to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Burgundy also cultivates Aligoté (a white grape variety from the Mâconnais used to produce mass-produced wines and sometimes present in Crémant de Bourgogne) and Gamay, the famous red grape used to produce Beaujolais wines.
