Rosso di Montalcino - 2013 - Mastrojanni
Mastrojanni is a winery in Tuscany, located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the far southeastern part of the municipality of Montalcino. It is best known for its wines made from the Sangiovese grape variety. The Mastrojanni winery, an integral part of the estate, is partially dug into the hillside. The grapes are fermented primarily in concrete tanks, with a select portion undergoing vinification in wooden vats for additional tannins. Unique fruit and Austrian tannins unexpectedly characterize this wine, making it perfect for long aging, almost on par with Brunello. The cool season helped reveal one of the oldest expressions of Sangiovese. The wine shows a bright red with violet hues, lively and intense. On the nose, it reveals an interesting classic youthfulness, with fragrant and juicy notes of unripe cherries. In the mouth, an intense entry accompanies a pleasantly tannic and savory finish.
