The vineyards that provide the grapes for the creation of Fontalloro are located in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the elevated area of Fèlsina, as well as in the Chianti Colli Senesi region, at altitudes ranging from 330 to 407 meters above sea level. These vineyards mainly enjoy a southwestern exposure and are distinguished by a variety of soils: in Chianti Classico they are characterized by rocky and limestone soils, while along the border with the Crete Senesi they are mainly rich in sand, silt, small pebbles and marine sediments. Fontalloro first saw the light of day in 1983. It shows a ruby red color of good intensity and tonal richness. Its aromatic characteristics are complex, with clear notes of tobacco, wet earth and a subtle suggestion of earth dust, accompanied by hints of black currant, blackberry and licorice. On the palate, it is distinguished by a well-balanced tannicity and a medium-soft tannin texture. It shows good texture, structure and nobility in the aftertaste, with excellent aging ability in the most important vintages.
