Chianti Classico Gran Selezione ”Paronza” - 2018 - Casale dello Sparviero
The Casale dello Sparviero winery was acquired by the Andrighetti family in the 1970s, an entrepreneur from Veneto who sensed its potential for wine production; the winery was passed to his daughter Ada, who completely modernized it in the 1990s by making new acquisitions and replanting in the vineyard. Her son Arrigo took the reins a few years later to lead the winery through the 21st century. The sparrowhawk is a symbol of elegance and strength, and it was easy enough for the estate's name to become a tribute to this wonderful bird of prey. This Gran Selezione is a pure Sangiovese with 18 months in barrique. Paronza is the estate's historic vineyard with a clay terroir. An important and austere wine with great structure and personality It is ruby red in color with intense garnet highlights; the nose opens with hints of cherry and notes of vanilla; the palate is powerful, tannic and dry with an aftertaste of blackberries and sweet tobacco.
