Les Restanques de Pibarnon - 2003 - Bandol
This Bandol 2003 Restanques immediately reveals the quality of its origins. It offers great aromatic intensity, thanks to its soil: small red and black berry fruits, floral notes, a few delicate spices and a hint of pepper. The mouth is worthy of great wines: full, balanced, with elegant and silky tannins. It is made with 70% Mourvedre and 30% Grenache is grown on a natural hillside terrace from fairly young vines on a very mineral soil. Everyone knows Grenache but much less about Mourvèdre, a tenacious, very tannic and late-ripening grape that has found in Pibarnon and its 3,000 hours of sunshine the ideal place to be grown. A grape that needs a lot of water, the area's chalky soil accumulates winter rains and then releases them during the summer period.
