Heritage - 2011 - Haut Poitou
Haut-Poitou is an AOC designation for wines from the area around the city of Poitiers in west-central France. Although the region is associated with the Loire Valley, it is a very peripheral area. Poitiers, the city at the centre of the appellation, is a good 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Saumur. Oceanic influences regulate temperatures, but this is a generally continental region with little annual rainfall and warm sunny hours. The soils are predominantly chalky clay.
