Grands Echezeaux - 1985 - René Engel
Domaine René Engel was a Burgundy producer known for making some of the best examples of Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée. The domaine remained in the Engel family for three generations until the death of Philippe Engel in 2005. Wines in the domaine's portfolio included wines from the village of Vosne-Romanée, Pinot Noir from the old vines of the Premier Cru Les Brulées vineyard, and wines from each of the estate's three grand cru sites-Clos Vougeot, Grands-Echézeaux, and Echézeaux. Robert Parker, renowned critic, said of this vintage, "Certainly no one will complain about Grands Echezeaux, a rich, deep ruby-colored, long wine with savory, lush fruitiness. It should age well...."
