Chateau Vieux Guinot - 1989 - St Emilion
Château Vieux Guinot, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru, has been in the family since 1729. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the property expanded, incorporating two other châteaux: Roc Saint Michel and Gaillard de la Gorce, also Grands Crus. Finally, in 1957, Jean-Pierre Rollet acquired Château Fourney, another Saint Emilion Grand Cru. Vignobles Rollet thus owns 44 hectares consisting of a mosaic of terroirs ranging from clay-limestone to siliceous-gravel. The vines currently consist of 70% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Rollet family also owns 20 hectares in the Côtes de Castillon appellation, divided between the two properties of Château Fourquerie and Château Grand Tertre. Aged for 18 months (including 12 months in barrel, with 25% renewed each year), the wine offers notes of red fruit (black cherry), with hints of smoke and toast. It is a well-structured, elegantly woody wine.
