Jurancon "Ballet d'Octobre" - 2005 - Domaine Cauhape
Henri Ramonteu, self-taught Béarnais has been a winemaker since 1978. Gradually, with medals and awards, he has made a name for himself and taken the entire Jurançon appellation with him. The 43 hectares of vineyards produce about 250,000 bottles of this golden wine each year, made mainly from two grape varieties, Petit Manseng (for sweet wines) and Gros Manseng (for premium dry and sweet wines). The vines are perched 500 meters above sea level, between the Pyrenees and the Atlantic (we are here very close to Pau, 100 km from Biarritz and 60 km from Spain). Among other things, they benefit from a climate that combines mountain rigor and maritime mildness. Winds sweep the site. The soil, of high quality, is a precious mixture of clay, pebbles and silica that allows the vines to express their potential with nobility. The wines, with the freshness typical of the region, reveal explosive aromas of baked apple, mirabelle plum, fruit paste, and wild medlar.
