Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Vigna Bastignano” - 2017 - Villa Calcinaia
For a decade now, Villa Calcinaia has been engaged in a redevelopment plan for the production of Chianti Classico wines, which has entailed the replanting of a large part of the vineyard. Qualifying elements of this replanting programme have been the commitment and relative restoration of terraced plots, which thus allow the vines to be planted according to contour lines instead of following the steepest slope; and the recovery of the historic Sangiovese populations 'recognised', vine by vine, by the 'camporaioli' plots. From this new generation of vineyards, located in the clay-calcareous theatre bordered by the large umbrella pines of the Bastignano estate, the 2006 vintage gave birth to the classic Sangiovese wine that bears the same name as the estate. An open and singular expression of the ecological niche of warmth and light within which it develops.
