Durante la fase di maturazione del 1997, le temperature si sono mantenute costanti, senza picchi estremi, favorendo un'annata eccellente nelle principali regioni vinicole della California. Alla vista, il vino è opaco con riflessi rubino, mentre al naso spiccano intense note di cassis con un sottofondo affumicato e minerale. Al palato, l'estratto puro di cassis si mescola a tannini setosi e una persistenza sorprendente, con un finale lungo e speziato. Un vino ricco e concentrato, perfettamente bilanciato e capace di invecchiare per due decenni.
