La Maison di Champagne Moët & Chandon è stata fondata nel 1743 da Claude Moët, un commerciante di vini visionario, che ne ha fatto rapidamente un riferimento per le corti europee. Jean-Rémy Moët ha creato la cuvée emblematica della maison, Moët Imperial, in onore dell'imperatore Napoleone Bonaparte, che visitò più volte la tenuta e si dice abbia inventato con le sue truppe il gesto di sciabolare le bottiglie di champagne Moët & Chandon per celebrare una vittoria.
