Also called "Roter traminer" in Germany. Well known in Alsace, where the term also designates wines made from this grape variety. "Traminer" is in fact the aromatic white grape variety from Tramin (northern Italy), a term to which is added "gewürz," meaning "spicy" or "aromatic." And with good reason, given the rarity of its powerful and very distinctive aromas reminiscent of rose or lychee. Aromas that are sometimes even exuberant in their rich bouquet. It is vinified into dry white wine or sweet wine in late harvest, from selected grapes. It is not a yielding grape variety, which makes the resulting wines highly prized.
