Azienda Agricola Barbacarlo (often added to Comm. Maga Lino di Maga Giuseppe after veteran estate winemaker Lino Maga) is a wine estate based in the town of Broni, just south of Pavia in the Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy in northern Italy. The estate produces a couple of single-vineyard red wines from the area-a blend of local red varieties under the titles Otrepo Pavese DOC/DOP and/or Provincia di Pavia IGT. Sometimes referred to as Vino Maga, the estate produces two minimum-intervention wines from the Barbacarlo and Montebuono vineyards. The wines are a blend of local mainstays Croatina, Uva Rara and Vespolina grown from very old vines and cultivated without synthetic herbicides or pesticides. Harvesting is done by hand. I wines have a legendary reputation among traditional and natural wine enthusiasts and, despite their instability in bottling, are renowned for enjoying exceptional longevity.
