Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region is the area that has made French wines world famous more than any other. This success has been achieved through centuries of tradition and pursuit of quality. Bordeaux's fame is mainly due to its red wines, 80 percent of production, with their impressive structure and power, but also for its mulled or botrytized wines. The famous and expensive wines of Bordeaux actually make up a tiny percentage of total production, while most of the wines produced in the region (700 million bottles a year) are simply good wines and often with very affordable prices.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are the three main grapes from which Bordeaux red wines are made. This composition known as the "Bordeaux Cut" is now found in a great many wines produced around the world
