Joseph Phelps is a renowned Napa Valley winemaker, best known for his Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery, located near St. Helena, has vineyards in Stags Leap, Oak Knoll, Rutherford, and Oakville. Founded in 1973, the company initially released three wines. Phelps, originally a real estate developer in Colorado, fell in love with the Napa wine industry during a project. After importing grapes to Denver for winemaking, he purchased a ranch in Napa Valley and began planting vineyards.
