The prestigious fortified wines of Sauternais come from a 2,200-hectare terroir between the Garonne and the Landes forest, 40 km from Bordeaux. The municipalities involved are Sauternes, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac and Barsac. While they all have the Sauternes appellation, Barsac also offers the AOC Barsac, with the same production rules. The 27 grands crus, classified in 1855, represent the excellence of Sauternais. For over 150 years, successive owners have maintained the quality of these legendary elixirs, appreciated both alone and in surprising gourmet pairings.
