Chateau Bernadotte - 2006 - Haut Médoc
Château Bernadotte is a cru bourgeois located in Haut-Médoc, near Pauillac. Originally Château Fournas, it was purchased in 1997 by May Eliane de Lencquesaing, former owner of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. After extensive renovations, it came under the control of Roederer in 2007, then sold in 2012 to King Power. The estate covers 35 hectares with gravelly, sandy and clay soils, growing mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It produces about 10,000 cases a year of its Bordeaux blend, with fermentation in steel and aging in French oak. The name comes from Jean Bernadotte, former Napoleonic marshal and King of Sweden, who was linked to the site despite the construction of the château many years after his death.
