Barolo, known as the "king of wines," is prized for its nobility, austerity and richness of flavors and aromas. Produced southwest of Alba, in a hilly area with a complex geological profile, this wine is distinguished by its unique characteristics. The Barolo appellation is now one of the most highly regarded in Italy, and the castles of the Marquises of Barolo and the Count of Cavour, where it was created, are prominent wine centers. Barolo has a garnet red color that tends to orange with aging, complex aromas of violets and vanilla, and a warm, lingering taste.
