The prestigious Sauternais fortified wines come from a 2,200-hectare terroir between the Garonne and the Landes forest, 40 km from Bordeaux. The communes involved are Sauternes, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac and Barsac. While all have the Sauternes appellation, Barsac also offers AOC Barsac, with the same production rules. The 27 grands crus, classified in 1855, represent the excellence of Sauternais. For more than 150 years, successive owners have maintained the quality of these legendary elixirs, appreciated both on their own and in surprising gourmet pairings.
