The vineyards that provide the grapes for the creation of Fontalloro are located in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the elevated area of Fèlsina, as well as in the Chianti Colli Senesi region, at altitudes ranging from 330 to 407 meters above sea level. These vineyards mainly enjoy a south-west exposure and are distinguished by the variety of their soils: in Chianti Classico they are characterized by rocky and calcareous soils, while along the border with the Crete Senesi they are predominantly rich in sand, silt, small pebbles and marine sediments. Fontalloro saw the light for the first time in 1983. It has a ruby red color of good intensity and tonal richness. Its aromatic characteristics are complex, with evident notes of tobacco, wet earth and a subtle suggestion of earth dust, accompanied by hints of blackcurrant, blackberry and licorice. On the palate, it is distinguished by a well-balanced tannicity and a medium soft consistency of the tannins. It shows good consistency, structure and nobility in the aftertaste, with an excellent aging capacity in the most important vintages.
