Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020 is a 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico, Tuscany. Cultivated on loamy soils with the presence of skeleton, the vines were planted in 2000 with a density of 7,350 plants per hectare and a yield of 60 quintals per hectare. Limited production stands at about 14,700 bottles. The grapes, harvested by hand, are selected berry by berry before fermenting for 20 days in temperature-controlled vats, followed by post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 25 hl wooden barrels, where the wine ages for 18 months, 6 of which are on the fine lees, followed by a further 6 months in steel and 6 in bottle. On the palate, it is distinguished by notes of red cherry, tobacco, leather, spice and licorice, with elegant tannins and well-balanced acidity, offering power, structure and a long, pleasant finish. This wine has received numerous awards, including 95 points from Robert Parker and 94 points from James Suckling for select vintages.
