I prestigiosi vini liquorosi del Sauternais provengono da un terroir di 2.200 ettari tra la Garonna e la foresta delle Landes, a 40 km da Bordeaux. I comuni coinvolti sono Sauternes, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac e Barsac. Mentre tutti hanno la denominazione Sauternes, Barsac offre anche l'AOC Barsac, con le stesse regole produttive. I 27 grands crus, classificati nel 1855, rappresentano l'eccellenza del Sauternais. Per oltre 150 anni, i proprietari successivi hanno mantenuto la qualità di questi elisir leggendari, apprezzati sia da soli sia in abbinamenti gourmet sorprendenti.
