The Fanti-branded Brunello di Montalcino is the winery's historic wine produced since 1980, and is made from the selection of 10 hectares of Sangiovese, with vines averaging between 20 and 30 years old, located on different slopes of the Castelnuovo dell'Abate area. The 2018 version is aged for 24 months in both barrique and large wood. On the nose, it alternates references to red fruits and medicinal herbs, with floral touches and plenty of background spice. In the mouth, the development is solid with an articulated tannic texture and a well-present acid fragrance, which lengthens the sip to a broad finish with balsamic references. Tenuta Fanti is run by Filippo Fanti, who in the late 1970s transformed it from a sharecropping estate into a full-fledged winery. The winery has 50 hectares of vineyards, between 150 and 400 meters above sea level, spread over several plots, all within a few kilometers of the winery. We are not far from Castelnuovo dell'Abate, a reference locality in the southeast quadrant of the appellation. Today, 200,000 bottles of total production come out of this reality, composed mainly of juicy and intense Sangiovese, which the winery declines in a style with a modern and easygoing trait.
