Azienda Agricola Barbacarlo (often appended to Comm. Maga Lino di Maga Giuseppe after the estate's veteran vintner Lino Maga) is a winery based in the town of Broni, just south of Pavia in the Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy in northern Italy. The estate produces a pair of single-vineyard red wines from the area-a blend of local red varietals under the Otrepo Pavese DOC/DOP and/or Provincia di Pavia IGT titles. Sometimes referred to as Vino Maga, the estate produces two minimal intervention wines from its Barbacarlo and Montebuono vineyards. The wines are a blend of local mainstays Croatina, Uva Rara and Vespolina grown from very old vines and cultivated without synthetic herbicides or pesticides. Harvesting is done by hand. The wines have a legendary reputation among traditional and natural wine enthusiasts and, despite their instability in bottling, are renowned for enjoying exceptional longevity.
