La Jota wines have their roots in Napa Valley, where in 1888, W.S. Keyes planted some of the first vines on Howell Mountain. Ten years later, Fredrick Hess built a stone winery and founded La Jota Vineyard Co. named after his Mexican parcel, Rancho La Jota. Both won medals for their Howell Mountain wines at the 1900 Paris Exposition. Today, La Jota Vineyard Co. continues this great tradition with small-batch Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay, expressing the fruity, minerally complexity of these cool-climate origins.
