Mercurey Blanc - 2001 - Chateau Santenay
Mercurey is a village in the Côte Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy. It produces mainly red wines from the Pinot Noir grape, with a small portion of production consisting of white wines from Chardonnay. The Mercurey appellation is important to the region and its wines are known for being more intense, full-bodied and long-lived than other wines from the same area. Mercurey's production is the largest of the five commune titles of the Chalonnaise. The area has a continental climate with hot summers and relatively dry autumns. A quarter of Mercurey's vineyards are classified as premier cru, with more stringent quality requirements. The village is named after Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, due to its strategic location along a Roman road.
