Rarely encountered due to the proliferation of more specific regional (and often well-known) titles, Mâcon is the generic title for red, white, and rosé wines from throughout the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Red wines sold under the generic Mâcon designation can be made from Pinot Noir or Gamay , although most feature the latter varietal since those made from Pinot Noir can also be labeled with the more prestigious Bourgogne AOC designation.
